ATHENA – Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney (D-Salem) has made the committee appointments for the 2021 session of the state Legislature, and Sen. Bill Hansell (R-Athena) is seeing a promotion.
“I’m back on the Labor and Business Committee, and this year I got promoted to vice chair,” he said.
The Republican from Athena said that Courtney did something that has never been done before, bringing a taste of bipartisanship to the powerful Joint Ways and Means Committee.
“President Courtney kept the same two Democrat co-chairs, but he added a third co-chair,” Hansell said. “He added a Republican and that’s Fred Girod (R-Stayton).”
Girod is the senate minority leader. Hansell also serves on the Ways and Means Committee as does Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner).
