Halfway woman arrested after disturbance

HALFWAY – On September 15, 2021 at approximately 2:05 a.m., Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of a disturbance at 115 E. Dawson Street in Halfway, Oregon.

Upon arrival at the residence, deputies spoke with Shyla Melchior (32 yoa). Melchior reported that she was in her residence when she heard a vehicle accelerating loudly and causing a commotion. She went outside and confronted the driver of the vehicle, identified as Jessica Marie Gonzales (31 yoa). Gonzales turned the steering wheel and put the vehicle in reverse. As the vehicle backed up, Melchior was struck in the hand by the driver side mirror which shattered. Gonzales drove the vehicle into the yard of the residence causing damage from the tire tracks. Gonzales then left the scene. 

Melchior suffered minor injuries during the incident. 

Deputies went to Gonzales’ residence at 110 Valley Avenue, where she was taken into custody without incident. Gonzales was transported to the Baker County Jail and charged with Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver-Injury, Attempted Assault III, Assault IV, Reckless Driving, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
