HALFWAY — (Release from the Baker County Sherriff’s Department)
On February 21, 2023 at approximately 7:47 a.m., Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received multiple calls regarding an individual causing a disturbance outside of the Old Pine Market in Halfway. Callers reported that an adult male was screaming, filming people, aggressively chasing vehicles and stripping off his clothes.
Deputy Harvey responded to the area and located the subject, identified as Jamil Salah Hosni (42 yoa) of Halfway, Oregon, in the cemetery. As Deputy Harvey approached on foot, Hosni charged at him. Deputy Harvey deployed chemical spray and was charged a second time by Hosni. Hosni began to run but eventually complied when Deputy Harvey gave commands, ultimately laying down on the ground. Toward the latter part of the incident, Todd Robinette and Brandon Trotter, City of Halfway employees, saw what was occurring and assisted Deputy Harvey.
Hosni was charged with Attempted Assault IV, Harassment, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest and Public Indecency. He was transported and lodged at the Baker County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
Baker County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Todd Robinette and Brandon Trotter for their assistance during this incident.
