Gunfire in La Grande, one juvenile taken into custody

LA GRANDE – (Release from La Grande Police Department) At approximately 12:28 AM on March 27th, 2024, the La Grande Police Department 911 dispatch center received multiple calls reporting gunfire in the 1500 block of U Avenue.  La Grande Police Officers swiftly responded to the scene and engaged with witnesses in the area. Upon investigation, it was revealed that an intoxicated male juvenile had discharged 10 rounds into the air from a handgun.

The officers immediately contacted the intoxicated juvenile male at a residence in the area.  During the encounter, the juvenile exhibited uncooperative behavior towards law enforcement officers. He attempted to assault one officer by striking him in the face and attempted to assault another before being successfully taken into custody. Subsequent to the arrest, law enforcement officials seized a Glock 19 handgun, along with (10) spent 9mm cartridges, and various other items of evidence.  The spent cartridges were all located outside in the driveway of the U Avenue residence where the juvenile was located. 

The juvenile male has been charged with multiple offenses including Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer X 2, Harassment,  Resisting Arrest, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Disorderly Conduct II. Additionally, he has been cited for Minor in Possession of Alcohol. The juvenile has been transferred to the custody of the Union County Juvenile Department pending further legal proceedings.
