LA GRANDE – The City of La Grande has officially delayed construction of the city’s new planned bicycle pump track until October 2024. Construction was initially slated for August, though was delayed following staff issues. La Grande Parks and Recreation Director Stu Spence told Elkhorn Media Group that the primary contractor for the project lost several key staff members leading up to the planned groundbreaking date and was forced to bring another subcontractor. According to a recent activity report from the La Grande city manager’s office, the project has been awarded to a new subcontractor, with construction now expected to finish in late fall 2024.

For those unfamiliar, the project is a collaborative effort between the City of La Grande Parks and Recreation Department and the Blue Mountain Single Track Trails Club to construct a new pump track state-of-the-art outdoor pump track for the City of La Grande. The city themselves received $75,000 dollars in grant funds in 2023 toward the project, with the club fundraised remaining costs.
