UMATILLA – The city of Umatilla is hosting a ground-breaking ceremony for the
business center. The city says the center, which will occupy most of a city block, will
significantly enhance the downtown area marking a new era of business development.
The ceremony is tomorrow (Tuesday) at 4:30 p.m. It will be held at the old post office
building, 830 Sixth Street next to Umatilla City Hall.
Considered a key element of the city’s master plan, the center will include city facilities,
office spaces, and cultural offerings. It will also house the city’s business incubator program which will provide new-to-Umatilla businesses with office space at rental rates below market rates. The goal of those businesses is that, with proper training, they will graduate in two or three years and move to another location in the city, making room for a new tenant in the incubator.
Other plans include a commercial kitchen for community use, meeting space, and a
mixed-use facility immediately north of the soon-to-be repurposed post office building.
Village Square Park will also be modified and include infrastructure for food trucks and
other vendors.
