LA GRANDE – After roughly five years of planning, fundraising, and construction, members of Greenwood Elementary School’s PTS (Parent Teacher Students) officially cut the ribbon on the school’s new playground. Located along the soccer field just across the street from the school, the playground has been nothing short of a community effort. The project cost roughly ten thousand dollars and saw time and monetary contributions from students, parents, school staff, and community members alike.
The ribbon cutting was brief but saw a great turnout of supporters. Plenty of kids were already putting the playground equipment through its paces before the scissors were even brought out. During the ceremony, Elkhorn Media Group caught up with Greenwood PTS Public Relations Director Tiffany Waley who gave the following statement to the La Grande Community:
“Thank you for donating your time, your fundraising, having your kids go door to door if they did, or in the streets or anything like that. The community has continued to use this whole field for soccer practices and football practices and T ball and things like that so it’s actually really good community engagement with the students and students around the community, not just Greenwood. So, thank you very much for contributing to this.”
The new playground is located at the Greenwood Elementary School’s soccer field, 2300 N Spruce St, La Grande, and is open to all members of the community.
