JOHN DAY / CANYON CITY – Earlier this winter, we learned that Grant School District #3 received a CTE Revitalization Grant from the State of Oregon that will enable the district to build a greenhouse and chicken coop on the Humbolt Elementary campus.

Grant Union Ag. Teacher Kailee Oliver told KJDY’s Coffee Time listeners on Tuesday that this will enable older students to work with younger students, all the while receiving a hands-on learning experience:

“We’re going to put it down at Humbolt. It’s going to allow for grade school students to be able to get some hands-on learning exposure as well. Also, our high school students [will have] the chance to not only tech the little kids what they know, but have a lab space to do a lot of different things. Whether that is research-based or growing, selling, and making they’re own business out of it—whatever might come up.”

Mrs. Oliver said that there will even be an opportunity this summer for high school students to help build the greenhouse.
