Grant School District #3 students discuss Lunch Buddy program

JOHN DAY – Members of the Grant Union High School Lunch Buddy program were in KJDY Studios on Tuesday to appear on an episode of Coffee Time. Every Monday, Juniors and Seniors at the high school who participate will have lunch and carry out conversations with younger students at Humbolt Elementary. GU Senior Karly VanLoo explained what a typical lunch appointment is like with her lunch buddy:

“We eat lunch, obviously, and you have conversations. You can eat lunch too—the high schoolers are encouraged to eat lunch with them to make the kids feel more comfortable—and then you go out to recess with them, and you make them feel comfortable in a social environment. It’s really fun, honestly.”
