Grant County’s Summer Lunch Program begins June 22nd

JOHN DAY / CANYON CITY / MT VERNON – The Summer Lunch Program sponsored by Grant School District 3 will begin soon for all children 18 and under who wish to participate. District Head Cook for the Summer Tia Kastner was in the studio and gave listeners a few details:

“We are starting the 22nd of June, and we will serve until August 6th. We are serving Monday through Thursday, with Thursday getting two meals…it’s a lunch and a P.M. snack.

We are at Humbolt [Elementary] this year, instead of Canyon City Park, to include the Summer School kids in getting their meals; and then, we’re going to be by Malone Field at the 7th Street Complex [in John Day], and we are going to be at the Mt. Vernon Park.”

Lunch will be served from noon until 12:45 each Monday through Thursday in each location. While the Summer Lunch Program is dedicated specially for youth, the team at Grant School District #3 will  be holding a kickoff barbecue for the community that is open to everyone, including adults. That will happen on Saturday, June 20th between Noon and 1:30 p.m.
