Grant County Youth Livestock Auction Scholarship due July 1st

JOHN DAY โ€“ The Grant County Youth Livestock Auction Committee supports local youngsters in several ways. The auction, during the final day at the Grant County Fair, is the big oneโ€”which helped to raise $547,037 for Grant County youth at last yearโ€™s event.

The committee also has a scholarship opportunity available for graduating (or in this case, just graduated) high school seniors, and the application is due Monday:

โ€œThe application deadline is July 1st, so itโ€™s really coming up close. I have a few, but I think there are more kids out there that might qualify.

Itโ€™s kind of a one-time thing, so when youโ€™re a senior, you can apply. You have to have participated in four auctionsโ€”so, have sold four animals through the auction. It could have been when you were a younger kid in grade school, or you could be showing one this year, and that could be your fourth.โ€

Springer said the scholarships can be emailed to the address provided on the application; mailed and postmarked no later than July 1st; or, handed in at her office at the Planning Department in the Grant County Courthouse.

This yearโ€™s Grant County Youth Livestock Auction will be held August 10th.
