GRANT COUNTY – Former Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Paul Gray has moved on, to be the Emergency Manager in Morrow County. In the meantime, Harney County Emergency Management Coordinator Suzanne Settle said she’ll step up until the position is filled:

“I offered to help, especially with the grants that will be coming in here soon and some of the projects we already had started. I’m up here helping wherever I can. We’re sister counties, and I’ve got your back.”

The Grant County Court voted Wednesday to advertise for a new Emergency Manager as soon as possible.

Settle said that a recent grant award of around $650,000 from the state will give Grant County a “complete communications upgrade across the board,” as she put it. She noted that there will be eight new or improved repeaters thanks to the funding. In Grant County Court on Wednesday, Sheriff Todd McKinley noted that years back, the Fall Mt. repeater was replaced with another older repeater. He said the one they took out still had Civil Defense stickers on it, dating back to the second World War.
