Grant County Judge says a potential resolution could provide funding for library

JOHN DAY – Last week, we reported there is a feasibility study underway conducted by the Save Our Library Committee. The committee is seeking community input on what the library means to Grant County residents, and a few options on how it could be funded going forward. One of the paragraphs from the survey states, โ€œPreviously, Grant County allocated about $220K to fund the library. Due to a severe budget shortfall, Grant County needs to reduce costs. The Grant County Court has indicated they will eliminate funding for the library after June 2026.โ€

Grant County Judge Jim Hamsher called our newsroom to go on the record in stating that the County Court has not had a discussion to stop the library’s funding, and there may be a resolution in the works of around $200,000 that would allow the county to continue to fund the Grant County Library. ย The Judge didnโ€™t share anymore details on the potential resolution; weโ€™ll provide further updates as they are released.
