JOHN DAY – Last week, we reported there is a feasibility study underway conducted by the Save Our Library Committee. The committee is seeking community input on what the library means to Grant County residents, and a few options on how it could be funded going forward. One of the paragraphs from the survey states, โPreviously, Grant County allocated about $220K to fund the library. Due to a severe budget shortfall, Grant County needs to reduce costs. The Grant County Court has indicated they will eliminate funding for the library after June 2026.โ
Grant County Judge Jim Hamsher called our newsroom to go on the record in stating that the County Court has not had a discussion to stop the library’s funding, and there may be a resolution in the works of around $200,000 that would allow the county to continue to fund the Grant County Library. ย The Judge didnโt share anymore details on the potential resolution; weโll provide further updates as they are released.
