JOHN DAY – According to the Oregon Department of Education, Oregon schools follow slightly different metrics than Oregon counties when dealing with COVID-19. Grant County will remain in the “Lower” risk as we learned earlier today, but the schools operate under the Ready Schools Safe Learners guidance.
Grant County ESD Superintendent Robert Waltenburg today noted that local schools are in the “red” because of the 100+ cases that the county has seen over the past two weeks. Waltenburg wrote, “This impacts schools in that they will now have to offer the BinaxNOW tests to students/staff who show up with symptoms in order to remain in school.”
Waltenburg also noted that since the county metrics will remain in green, athletic events are likely still good-to-go. We’ll keep you updated as more comes in.
