JOHN DAY – According to a release from the Grant County Food Pantry, the organization recently received a $6,000 grant from the Roundhouse Foundation to purchase additional food for the pantry. The food pantry Board of Directors has need to purchase additional food for several months with funds from monetary donations to the food bank. Secretary Kris Beal said thanks to the funding from the Roundhouse Foundation, the pantry has been able to continue their optional food list and standard family size distribution.

Remember, with Thanksgiving this month, the Food Pantry’s distribution day will be a week earlier—tomorrow, November 19th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Patrons can line-up in the area east of the John Day City Hall, beginning around 8:30 a.m..

Beal also mentioned, “In addition, many individuals and groups in Grant County have brought food donations to the food pantry in the last few weeks in response to the temporary delay in SNAP benefits.  The Board of Directors thanks everyone for their recent cash and food donations.  The Grant County Food Pantry runs on the hard work of our many volunteers (38 volunteers volunteered for 153 hours in October) and the generous donations of our Grant County citizens.”
