GRANT COUNTY – According to a release from Fire Defense Board Chief Ron Smith, the Grant County Fire Defense District is currently in fire season, effective June 1st, 2021. No burn barrel or yard debris burning is allowed during fire season. Campfires, cooking fires, and/or warming fires are allowed with landowner approval until Regulated Use is implemented. At this time, there is no date set to go into Regulated Use closures. We’ll keep you updated.
The dry conditions are expected to continue into this week, with record heat is expected today (Wednesday) in many locations throughout Eastern Oregon. Use caution. Highs in John Day are expected to be around 98 to100 today, the mid-90’s tomorrow, and a cool-down beginning Friday with highs in the 70s over the weekend.
