GRANT COUNTY: Falls Fire sends Izee into Level 2, Seneca into Level 1 evacuations

GRANT COUNTY – Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley has issued a press release regarding the Falls Fire. See below:

The Falls Creek fire that is located in northern Harney County in the general vicinity of Yellowjacket Lake appears to be on a slight north eastward path heading towards Grant County.


After significant growth on Saturday the 13th, and concerns for future wind driven unhindered growth, the Grant County Sheriffs Office in cooperation with the Grant County Fire Defense Board, the Emigrant Creek Ranger District, the Malhuer Nation Forest, Burns District BLM and the Harney County Sheriffโ€™s Office are issuing the following evacuation notices: lands situated just north of the southern Grant County line in the USFS 31 road area will be at a level 3, go now.


Lands north of that towards the Grant County 63 road are being set at Level 2, be set. This includes the southern Izee area.


Lands north of the 63 road in Bear Valley will be at a Level 1, be ready, as with the City of Seneca and the Silvies Valley Rqnch area.

From Grant County Emergency Management: โ€œThe American Red Cross is operating a shelter for evacuees from the Falls Fire. The shelter is located at the Grant County Fairgrounds, Trowbridge Pavilion, in John Day. There is a limited number of animals from evacuated locations that can be accommodated there as well.

These are the fire notification areas as of 1:50pm today. Level 3 is “Go now”, Level 2 is “Be set” and Level 1 is “Be ready”. The Grant County sheltering point for evacuees is at the Grant County Fair Grounds Pavilion. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.โ€

The emergency shelter at the Grant County Fairgrounds can house and feed more than 50 evacuees if needed.
