JOHN DAY – Grant County Emergency Communications Director Cammie Haney was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Monday and explained the process of making an emergency call to 9-1-1. She said the first thing a dispatcher will ask when answering a call is where you are located:
“I need to know exactly where you’re at, so location is primary. Another thing is, we may ask a lot of questions that don’t seem important, but they are. What we’re doing is we’re prepping the first responders that are going to assist you with information they’re going to need to help you quicker when they get there.”
Haney said it is also important to provide detailed information about whatever is going on in the emergency. Try to be as concise as possible, and answer the dispatcher’s questions to the best of your knowledge. 9-1-1 is also available through text messaging in Grant County.
