CANYON CITY – The Grant County Court today declared a county-wide state of emergency due to flooding. Southern Grant County, in the Silvies River drainage, has been challenged over the past few days with abundant floodwaters. The declaration was approved earlier this morning at the Grant County Court meeting.

As explained on Tuesday’s Coffee Time episode by Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush, the declaration was put into place in case the county needs to apply for assistance:

“That’s just to kind of set us into a good position to receive any federal funding, should there be a federal declaration for this weather event. Again, southern Grant County is affected. The same watershed as what’s affecting Burns.”

Bush reported that a septic emergency in Seneca was mitigated over the weekend thanks to help of workers and volunteers.
