(From Grant County Emergency Communications Director Cammie DeRosier)

This National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, I would like to take the opportunity to shine a very deserving light on the work done by Grant County’s 911 dispatchers: Angia Hannibal, Lori Shepherd, Simon Gee, Dina Cop, and Kacy Hutsell.

Serving as a 911 dispatcher in a small, rural community offers unique challenges compared to much larger centers. Relationships with the community we love and serve are deep and often personal. Our callers are our friends, community members, and sometimes even family members. On their worst days, we mourn with them, and on their best days, we celebrate the wins.

Dispatchers are the bridge between those in need and the first responders racing to help. It is an honor to work alongside some of the finest law enforcement officers, firefighters, and emergency medical service personnel daily. It’s a partnership built on trust, respect, and a shared mission to protect and serve.

911 dispatchers are not just part of the emergency response system-they are its foundation and heart. Dispatchers are the vital link in the chain of individuals who make up the emergency response system. They are the eyes and ears on the scene before physical help arrives. They are the FIRST first responders.

So, a heartfelt thank you and all my respect to our local dispatch team. You are appreciated and valued more than you know.

Cammie DeRosier
