Grant and Harney County Circuit Courts implement new jury summons

Grant and Harney County Circuit Courts will mail out jury summons in a new postcard format starting May 20.
The postcards will direct people to a website to respond to the jury summons and get more information. The old jury summons was a brochure inside an envelope.
“Our local courts strive to make jury service as easy and convenient as possible for our communities,” said Samantha Dowell, trial court administrator for the 24th Judicial District. “This new jury system is part of those efforts.”
The postcards direct potential jurors to a new online portal, Juror eResponse, using a web address or QR code. In the online portal, people can:
• respond to the jury summons,
• complete juror forms,
• sign up to receive notifications or reporting instructions by text or email, • get an attendance slip for their service,
• submit a request to be excused from service, or
• submit a request to have their jury service delayed to a later date.
The online portal will be the main way for prospective jurors to respond. However, those who do not have internet access or who need extra help can call the court. That contact number is included on the postcard.
All circuit courts statewide are moving to the new Juror eResponse system and the postcard summons.
“The new approach provides potential jurors more flexibility to update their information and more options for contacting the courts,” Dowell said. “It also saves money on printing and postage.”
