JOHN DAY – Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush was on Coffee Time Tuesday morning. The topic of the temporary worldwide Facebook and social media outage came up, and when asked if we’re prepared for a bigger communication outage, Bush said we could get by with a little help from our friends:
“Grant County is adjacent to more counties than any other county in the state. We touch eight other counties…that’s a real opportunity for us to make sure that we network closely with our next-door neighbors.
Part of that is a communications project that we’ve been working on for a couple of years. We’re doing a collaborative effort with Harney County to be able to go back-and-forth with our 9-1-1 systems, if one should go down the other could back it up, and our communication system would work in a similar fashion.”
