SALEM โ€“ Oregon State House of Representative Republicans failed in an attempt to force a vote on Senate Bill 83 on the floor of the House. The vote to take the bill that would overturn the controversial Statewide Wildfire Hazard Map out of the House Rules Committee failed by a 29 to 22 vote. Eight of the votes in favor of bringing the bill to the floor were Democrats. A total of 31 votes in favor of the move were required.

House Republican Leader Christine Drazan of Canby repeated that Speaker of the House Julie Fahey is playing with the lives of Oregonians by holding the bill hostage in the Democratsโ€™ desire to use money earmarked as a kicker to Oregon taxpayers for other purposes.

โ€œThis bill matters to Oregonians and should not continue to be held hostage,โ€ Drazan said. โ€œSB 83 has been heavily vetted through an open public process that included multiple hearings, stakeholder input, and thousands of emails from Oregonians harmed by these flawed maps.โ€

The Oregon Senate unanimously passed Senate Bill 83.
