SALEM – Gov. Tina Kotek is appointing Cris Patnode to the vacant position of Gilliam County commissioner judge. It is a position she would have naturally taken over due to the May primary election.
Patnode received over 61 percent of the vote in the primary election. The margin of victory over Condon Mayor Jim Hassing and Commissioner Leah Watkins meant she would take over the position with no need to run in the November general election.
“The appointment reflects the majority of voters in Gilliam County,” the announcement from the governor’s office stated. “The appointment is effective immediately.”
Patnode was raised near Condon and now lives in Arlington. She was the Gilliam County justice of the peace for more than 20 years. She takes over following the recall of Judge Elizabeth Farrar Campbell and Commissioner Pat Shannon in April.
