CANYON CITY – A Grant County man will spend over 12 years in prison following conviction of multiple child sex abuse crimes. Christopher Lee Gibson pleaded guilty to five different charges, some with multiple counts.

While delivering the sentence Tuesday morning, Judge Annette C. Hillman addressed Gibson, saying it is, “…challenging for the court when they hear from the victim in the case, and the impact you’ve had upon them. And the fact is, that you did take the innocence and confidence from a child.”

The victim in the case, who will remain unnamed, said in their statement that they would not let themselves “be broken by this man and this trial,” and that they will “grow despite this.”

Chris Gibson was sentenced to a total of 150 months, or twelve-and-a-half years in prison with the Oregon Department of Corrections, as well as three years on Post-Prison Supervision. Upon release he will also be required to register as a sex offender.

The convicting charges include Using a Child in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct, a Measure 11 crime; 3 counts of Encouraging Child Sex Abuse in the First Degree; Sodomy in the Third Degree; Online Sexual Corruption of a Child in the First Degree; and Luring a Minor.
