General Election 2021: Early results are in

Early results are in for Tuesday’s general election. In Umatilla County, voters overwhelmingly passed the Pilot Rock Fire District five-year local tax option for general operations by a vote of 369 to 72. In Walla Walla County, several races were on the ballot, including city council seats in College Place and Walla Walla.

Voters were also tasked with choosing a College Place mayor. Incumbent Norma L. Hernandez defeated challenger Jed Hedley 773 votes to 540.

There were three contested races for College Place City Council seats. In the race for College Place City Council Position 1, John Haid defeated Jerry Lee Bobbitt 733 votes to 418. Tito J. Espinoza had 619 votes to 585 for Nadine Stecklein to earn the seat for College Place City Council Position 3. For the College Place City Council Position 7, Monica Boyle earned 763 votes over 449 for Lonnie J. Croft.

There were three contested races for Walla Walla City Council seats. In the race for Walla Walla City Council Position 1 – South Ward, Rick Eskil defeated Myron Huie 2,873 votes to 1,942. Brian Casey had 2,451 votes to 2,397 for Adam Kirtley to earn the seat for Walla Walla City Council Position 2 – Central Ward. For the Walla Walla City Council Position 3 – At Large seat, Gustavo Reyna earned 2,632 votes over 2,238 for Rick Philips.

There were two contested races on the Walla Walla Public Schools Board of Directors. In the race for Position 1, Kathy Mulkerin defeated Zana Carver 3,305 votes to 2,931. Terri Trick had 3,448 votes to 2,832 for James Stovall to earn the Position 2 seat on the school board.

Voters in Walla Walla approved Proposition No. 1, with authorizes the continuation and extension of an existing sales and use tax for transportation improvements in the city of Walla Walla by a vote of 3,563 to 1,236.

The next ballot count will be Friday, Nov. 5.
