CANYON CITY – Grant School District #3 approached Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley with a proposal to provide a School Resource Officer for the district during the regular school year. For several recent years, that duty was fulfilled by the John Day City Police. In Grant County Court this morning, Sheriff McKinley noted this new agreement would be similar:
“…$50,000 a year for basically the same contract they had with the City of John Day for providing an officer at Grant Union. At this point, based on budgets and everything else, I can’t see any reason why we would not accept this. It can help our budget. It can help us with a position.”
The Grant County Court voted unanimously in favor of allowing the Grant County Sheriff’s Office to provide a School Resource Officer for Grant School District #3. The position will be held by a certified and specially trained officer.
