UPDATE: GCSO Press Release issued regarding unattended death

CANYON CITY – UPDATE: The following press release has been issued by Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley:

On the afternoon of December 16th, the Grant County Emergency Communication Center was contacted by a resident on Little Canyon Mountain that he had located a deceased subject. 

Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the report, and were led in to an area on private land to a pickup type camper. 

The resident of the camper was found deceased inside on the floor by the landowner when checking in on him. 

The deceased was, Wayne Grider, 60 yo of Little Canyon Mountain, and long time Grant County resident. There was no sign of foul play. 

The cause of death is under investigation by the Grant County Deputy Medicolegal Investigator. 

Family of Grider has been contacted. 

Sheriff McKinley would like to thank all those that responded and assisted and to those that had gone to check in on Mr. Grider.

PREVIOUSLY RELEASED: Only preliminary information has been released regarding a call about a deceased subject yesterday. Grant County Emergency Communications logs indicate that at 2:33 p.m. on Monday, December 16th, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to Canyon Mt. Trail to a deceased subject. Our newsroom has reached out to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office for further information.

The majority of Canyon Mountain Trail lies within the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness. This is a developing story, and we’ll provide more information as it is released.
