JOHN DAY – June is Search and Rescue Month, and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted a regional search and rescue training event for agencies throughout Eastern Oregon. The efforts were led by Search and Rescue Coordinator Deputy Garrett Shereve, and took place in the field as well as the Grant County Fairgrounds.
Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush was recently in KJDY Studios and explained a bit about the event:
“We did some great training—some classroom training down at the fairgrounds; then, [for] a couple days in a row, we went out into the forest and did some real-life search scenarios. [We] worked with search and rescue teams from all over the eastern part of the state. We had Civil Air Patrol, we had aircraft in the air, we had drones…we had search dogs…”
Bush said it was a successful training event and much was learned.
