WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla officers arrested a student at Garrison Middle School Tuesday afternoon, April 12, after it was reported they may have a gun in their backpack. The report was made after students were dismissed, according to district officials.
“Garrison Middle School officials immediately located the student to investigate,” Walla Walla Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Chris Gardea said. “A firearm was found, and the Walla Walla Police Department were immediately notified and they responded. The student was detained and put in custody of the Walla Walla Juvenile Detention Center. The district is working closely with law enforcement and the family as part of the police investigation.”
Gardea said he appreciates those who reported this situation to school officials so they could act quickly to ensure safety for everyone involved.
“The response continues to highlight the importance of our See Something, Hear Something, Say Something campaign, and our district’s ability to respond in a timely manner,” he said. “Safety remains the district’s top priority.”
