GRANT COUNTY – The Grant County Treatment Court will be making a comeback, thanks to grant monies as well as funding from the Department of Corrections. The court will focus on people in the criminal justice system in need of drug and/or alcohol treatment. Grant County Sheriff Todd McKinley explains a little about Treatment Court:
“Judge Christie Timko will be the judge of that. What it does, is it pulls a certain population that’s in trouble into that specific group, and then they give some pretty intensive input into their lives. And also, some pretty intensive requirements for them to be successful.”
The Sheriff said the grant funding along with financial support from the DOC will allow the local department to hire a full-time Probation Officer that will supervise that specific population. Participants in the program would be required to undergo substance abuse testing daily. Sheriff McKinley noted that nationally there has been a high success rate with participants who’ve gone through the Treatment Court process.
