BAKER CITY โ (Release from the Baker County Library District) Baker County Public Library will once again celebrate Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) on Saturday, May 3th 2025. Beginning at 10:00 AM, visitors can select up to 4 free comics per person while supplies last, and enter a raffle for prizes and gift cards to local businesses.
Established in 2002, Free Comic Book Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday in May, during which participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give out exclusive comic books for free to showcase the industry. Each year, thousands of participating locations give away over five million comic books to millions of fans to introduce them to the wonders of comics.
Comics and graphic novels are a powerful way to promote visual and verbal literacy, as well as love of reading and art. Researchers have found that high quality graphic novels can be particularly effective at helping improve reading interest, vocabulary building, and literacy skills for โreluctant readersโ and persons with dyslexia or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
This is the 9th year Baker County Library will celebrate the event, offering the community a fun, family-oriented program where readers can find a comic to enjoy.
Once again, the libraryโs comic shop sponsor this year is The Collectorโs Outpost based in Meridian, Idaho, which has donated all of the comic books. The Friends of Baker County Library group also provides funding for the raffle prizes.
More information about this yearโs comic book titles can be found online at www.freecomicbookday.com. Updates about the event at Baker County Public Library will be shared on its website and social media pages.
