LA GRANDE – (Information provided by the City of La Grande) A Primary Election will be held in the City of La Grande on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, to nominate candidates in Position Numbers 1 (Mayor), and 5, 6, and 7 (Councilors) if three (3) or more candidates file for a particular Position Number. According to Section 29 of the City Charter of the City of La Grande, if two (2) or fewer candidates file for any particular Position Number, the names of those candidates will be placed only on the November 8, 2022, General Election Ballot.
Only qualified electors who have resided in the City during the six (6) months immediately preceding the May 17, 2022, Primary Election may be nominated for a Council position. Nomination is by Petition, which must be signed by at least twenty (20) registered voters who reside in the City of La Grande city limits.
Candidate Packets are available as of Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from City Recorder Sandra Patterson, for the following positions:
POSITION NUMBER 1 MAYOR TWO-YEAR TERM
POSITION NUMBER 5 COUNCILOR FOUR-YEAR TERM
POSITION NUMBER 6 COUNCILOR FOUR-YEAR TERM
POSITION NUMBER 7 COUNCILOR FOUR-YEAR TERM
Completed Petitions must be filed in the City Recorder’s office, Second Floor of City Hall, 1000 Adams Avenue, no later than 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
