UNION COUNTY – In a recent announcement, Oregon Secretary of State LaVonne Griffin-Valade named this year’s recipients of the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) medallions, all of them being former county clerks. Among the honorees is Robin Church, Union County clerk of 16 years and public servant of 32 years.

The decision to honor Oregon’s county clerks this year isn’t just a coincidence, but part of an effort of the state government to show their support for employees tasked with keeping elections running smoothly. As stated by Secretary Griffin-Valade in the announcement:

“County clerks are the backbone of our democracy and elections infrastructure. The five former clerks receiving the awards are dedicated, inspiring, and respected public servants. They stood on the front lines of democracy to defend election integrity and transparency.”

The other clerks to be honored this year are Dana Jenkins of Lincoln County, Renee’ Kolen, of Curry County, and Cheryl Betschart of Lane County along with Mickie Kawai, the Washington County Elections Division Manager.
