SPOKANE – A Spokane County judge ruled Tuesday that former Pasco police officer
Richard Aguirre is guilty of first-degree murder in connection to the 1986 death of Ruby
Doss, a sex worker. Her body was found in a vacant lot in East Spokane.
In 2015, DNA found at the scene matched Aguirre’s. In 2016, there was a mistrial and he was found not guilty.
In 2017, charges were dropped due to evidence issues. He was then re-charged in
2021, but a mistrial was declared after a jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
In his latest trial, Aguirre waived his right to a jury trial, leading the way for a judge to
decide the verdict.
Aguirre was detained following the judge’s ruling and not permitted to leave the courtroom. Sentencing takes place February 5.
