SPOKANE – Former Pasco police officer Richard Aguirre is being retried this week in Spokane County. He’s accused of killing Ruby Doss, a sex worker, in 1986, and faces first-degree murder charges.

Doss’ body was found in a vacant lot in East Spokane.

In 2015, a break in the case came when DNA found at the scene matched Aguirre’s. Then in 2016, there was a mistrial and he was found not guilty.

In 2017, charges were dropped due to evidence issues. Then Aguirre was re-charged in 2021, but a mistrial was declared after a jury could not reach a verdict.

His new trial in Spokane County Superior Court will be without a jury. Aguirre resigned from the Pasco Police Department and was under investigation for raping a family member.
