Former John Day man who went missing was found in dry well

BEND – A former John Day man and current Bend resident had gone missing on Monday and was found Wednesday in good condition in a dry well. 34-year-old John McLerran had told people he was going for a walk to get coffee on Christmas Day, and never returned.
McLerran was found in a 6-foot dry well at a gated storage unit business on Wednesday. McLerran was seemingly in good condition and was transported to St. Charles hospital for further evaluation. The Bend Police Department informed our newsroom that, “Mr. McLerran was conscious and alert when found in the dry well. He does appear to have spent two nights down there. We reviewed surveillance footage and determined there was no criminal wrongdoing – Mr. McLerran appears to have accessed the dry well and climbed in on his own. He did not fall in.”
McLerran graduated from Grant Union High School in John Day, back in 2006.
