Former Crane Girls Basketball Coach sentenced to 3 years in prison

DESCHUTES AND HARNEY COUNTY-Roy “Stub” Travis is a former high school girls basketball and football coach from Crane Union High School in eastern Oregon. In June 2025, Travis pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor and furnishing alcohol to a minor. 

Travis was indicted in April 2024 on multiple charges, including sexual abuse and furnishing alcohol to a minor, with allegations involving a female student-athlete. In June 2025, he pleaded guilty to reduced charges of sexual abuse and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Travis was sentenced to three years in prison on September 5, 2025, followed by parole supervision. He is also required to register as a sex offender and is permanently prohibited from coaching. 

Travis coached girls basketball at Crane for 28 seasons, achieving significant success with a record of 570-154 and multiple state championships before resigning in 2023. He also coached football at Crane for 30 years, retiring in 2022 with a record of 167-61. He resigned from his positions in June 2023 after the allegations surfaced.
