BAKER COUNTY – (Release from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office) On July 19, 2023, at approximately 10:52 a.m., Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of a man standing on a train car with a rifle as it traveled westbound through Weatherby.
Dispatch contacted Union Pacific and requested the train be stopped. Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Baker City Police Department and Oregon State Police responded. Upon arrival, the subject jumped from the train car. Law enforcement personnel set up a perimeter and began a search of the area.
The subject was quickly located and identified as Christopher Cannady Evers (34 yoa) of Bradenton, Florida. Evers was in possession of a camera with a telephoto lens, which is believed to have been the object that was mistaken for a rifle.
Evers was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass II. He was transported to the Baker County Jail. The Baker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Baker City Police Department and Oregon State Police.
