Five injured in crash

BENTON CITY –Five people were injured, two of them children, in a crash on Interstate 82 near Benton City Saturday afternoon. The collision forced the closure of the westbound lanes for emergency vehicles.

Washington State Patrol reports an SUV driven by Maritza Andujo, 25, of Kennewick crashed into another SUV that had stopped for heavy traffic due to a grass fire. She is being charged with second-degree negligent driving.  A 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl riding in Andujo’s vehicle were also injured and all three were taken to Trios Health.

Also injured were the driver and passenger in the stopped vehicle. They are identified as  Sandra Shah, 40, of Zillah and Dalia Hernandez-Mata, 40, of Zillah. They were transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. WSP reported that both vehicles were totaled.
