BAKER CITY — Baker City is set to host its inaugural “Walk with a Doc” event this Saturday, June 29th, at Geiser Pollman Park. The event, organized by Dr. Lisa Lanning of St. Alphonsus Medical Center, aims to promote physical activity and provide valuable health information to the community.
Dr. Lanning, a family physician certified in lifestyle medicine, along with ST. Al’s will be leading the event. The walk will start at 9:00am. and is designed to be a casual, inclusive activity for people of all ages and fitness levels.
“It’s a totally volunteer activity for people to come and hear a free short, five to ten minute talk about why walking is the ideal exercise,” said Dr. Lanning.
Participants will have the chance to engage in a brief Q&A session with Dr. Lanning, where they can ask health-related questions and learn more about the benefits of walking. Following the talk, attendees will take a walk together, enjoying the fresh air and surroundings of Baker City.
“It’s a perfect opportunity to get some exercise and connect with a family doctor,” Dr. Lanning added.
The “Walk with a Doc” program is a nonprofit organization with chapters all over the world. This upcoming event marks the first of its kind in Baker City, thanks to Dr. Lanning’s efforts. “It was important for me to bring it here to Baker. We have a beautiful place to walk, and I wanted to get people out there moving,” she said.
Dr. Lanning says physical activity is important in combating the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle. “Being sedentary kills people. Walking is a great way to get moving and turn that around,” she noted.
No prior registration is necessary—just show up ready to walk and learn.
