WALLA WALLA – City firefighters and police officers have responded to several collisions on Myra Road recently due to high traffic levels caused by the detour route put in place because of the roundabout project on State Route 125 and Plaza Way in Walla Walla.
“Construction has about two weeks left on the roundabout project,” Walla Walla Fire Department Lt. Shawn Ongers said.
Due to the detour route on both Myra Road and Poplar Street, drivers are dealing with increased traffic which is leaving them frustrated. That frustration, according to both firefighters and police officers, leads to drivers speeding and operating a motor vehicle recklessly which has produced several car accidents.
“In the meantime, we would like people to take extra time for their commute, realizing that there could be some delays and extra traffic,” Ongers said. “Be mindful, be patient and be careful out there.”
