WALLA WALLA – Fireworks are the suspected cause of a fire on the 2000 block of Glen Erin Drive in the late hours of the Fourth of July. Calls came in shortly after 11 p.m. of reports that a garage and car were on fire and that the fire was spreading to a house.
When firefighters arrived, the found a single-story residence with an attached garage on fire. In addition, two vehicles next to the garage were also on fire. Firefighters immediately went to work trying to prevent the fire from spreading further into the residence. However, the fire made its way into the attic over the kitchen and living room.
It is presumed that sparks from aerial fireworks being discharged in the area landed on combustibles stored between the garage and a vehicle which caused the fire to ignite.
Damage to property and contents is estimated at $150,000.
