Firefighters work to build containment lines on 3,300-acre Burnt Creek Fire

ENTERPRISE – Crews continue to make progress on containing the Burnt Creek Fire which has grown slowly to 3,336 acres and is still at 0% containment.

Firefighters are continuing to hold and strengthen existing lines. Their focus today is from Oregon Highway 3 to the junction of Davis and Swamp creeks, creating a critical connection between containment features. They are also prioritizing a line from Davis Creek to Miller Ridge.

Air quality remains a concern in Wallowa County, with officials advising residents to keep windows closed during the smokiest parts of the day. They advise anyone with health sensitivities to smoke to be cautious and remain indoors if possible.

A Level 1 “Be Ready” evacuation is still in effect for residences on Joseph Creek Road. The U.S. Forest Service has implemented an area closure around the fire. Although Highway 3 and Forest Road 46 are open, the area between them is closed. The Chico Trail System is also closed.
