Firefighters quickly extinguish blaze at Walla Walla scrapyard

WALLA WALLA — Firefighters quickly contained a blaze at a local scrapyard Monday night, according to the Walla Walla Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched to the facility at 201 N. 11th Ave. at 7:50 p.m. Under a mutual-aid agreement, Walla Walla County Fire District 4 and the College Place Fire Department joined the effort to combat the active fire. Firefighters faced initial access challenges on the property but managed to bring the flames under control by 7:59 p.m.

The facility’s owner provided equipment to assist firefighters with continued suppression efforts. No injuries were reported among civilians or emergency personnel, though officials are still assessing the total cost of the damage.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the Walla Walla Police Department at 509-527-4434 to speak with a detective.
