Firefighters called to apartment fire

WALLA WALLA – Firefighters responded to a bathroom fire in one of the units at Kingsgate East Apartments, 625 Wellington Avenue, just before 5 a.m. Tuesday. The occupants were awakened by their smoke detector and were able to safely exit the apartment.
Upon making entry into the apartment, firefighters found smoke throughout the main floor and quickly went to work to extinguish the fire, which was confined to a ceiling fan located in the apartment’s bathroom. No injuries were reported to firefighters or occupants.
Damage is estimated at $1,800. While the cause of the fire is undetermined, it is presumed to be due to a faulty ventilation fan.
