Fire weather watch is upgraded to red flag warning

PENDLETON – The National Weather Service in Pendleton has cancelled its fire weather watch for Tuesday. For the third time in recent weeks, that alert has been upgraded to a red flag warning.

The red flag signifies that dry and breezy to windy conditions will lead to critical fire weather conditions Tuesday afternoon and evening throughout the lower Columbia River Basin of both Oregon and Washington. Outdoor burning is not advised.

The warning is in effect from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday. Winds from the west will range from 15 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 35 mph. Relative humidity is forecast to be as low as 15 percent. That means any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly.
