Fire to a vacant house in Elgin

ELGIN, OR – Elgin Rural Fire Protection District with help from La Grande Rural Fire Protection District, and Imbler Fire Department responded to an early morning house fire Thursday. The vacant home was at the corner of 13th and Baltimore in Elgin. At news time, no information was available or the cause.
The La Grande Rural Fire Protection District reminds everyone during periods of cold weather we often see an increase in chimney fire calls due to higher use of wood stoves and fireplaces, especially after long periods of burning cooler fires that build more creosote. Please ensure your chimney is kept clean to reduce the risk of a chimney fire, which can not only damage a chimney but if a chimney fails, result in a structure fire.
