SUMPTER — Investigators say a fire that destroyed a historic saloon was accidental.
The Office of the Oregon State Fire Marshal says it appears faulty electrical wiring caused the blaze that burned down the Elkhorn Saloon in the early hours of Wednesday, August 16th.
Multiple crews from fire departments across Baker County responded to battle the flames, which took several hours to extinguish.
No injuries were reported, but the building is a complete loss.
The Elkhorn Saloon dates back to 1900, when Sumpter and the surrounding area was a booming location for gold miners.
