PENDLETON – Pendleton Fire Chief Jim Critchley says that a fire at 100 S.E. Kirk Ave. was accidentally started by a woodstove. Firefighters got a call at 7:27 a.m. Sunday that smoke was spotted in the area. Crews were dispatched at 7:30 a.m.
Upon arriving at the home at 7:34 a.m., firefighters realized the fire was in the attic. While they were attempting to extinguish the blaze, Critchley reports the roof fell on them. One firefighter was injured in the collapse.
The firefighter was treated at the scene and taken to St. Anthony Hospital for further treatment. Critchley said he was doing well, and returned home that afternoon. No civilians were injured.
He estimates that damages total $75,000.
